“It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.” Ephesians 4:11-12 What about NON-Members? A non-member can serve on some committees.  Non-members cannot be on the church council, the pastor-parish relations committee, or the committee on nominations and leadership development.  The Discipline requires that persons serving on these committees must be members of the local church. Non-members can serve on the board of trustees.  ¶ 2524 of the 2008 Book of Discipline, on the membership of the board of trustees, says, "The trustees shall be of legal age as determined by law, and at least two-thirds shall be members of The United Methodist Church...."
