I think we all love a good story about an underdog that has been discounted and ridculed, only to rise above and be far more than anyone ever thought. These are the stories that leave us speechless and crying out for more. They are little glimpses of light that not everthing is as it appears. They are seeds of hope. We want to believe, we need to believe, that God still makes miracles happen in people's lives. The story of the underdog is the story of Susan Boyle the most unlikeliest of media superstars.

Susan Boyle is a 47 year old church volunteer from West Lothian, Scotland. She decided to be a contestant on the TV show Britain's Got Talent. When Boyle walked out on the stage nearly everyone assumed she was one of the delusional dreamers that provide comic relief and even cruel sport for Simon Cowell and the other judges. Susan is a frumpy spinster who admits she "has never been kissed". She lives alone with her pet cat Pebbles. You would not give her a second glance if you saw her in public.

She announced that she wanted a career in the mold of musical theater star Elaine Paige.  The audience snickered. Susan Boyle looked that unlikely. Then she began to sing "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Misérables. Check out the video of Susan Boyle auditioning for the show on April 11th.

I've watched this video several times and each time I can't help thinking about the hope and promise of Christianity. Counted out, despised by the elite and powerful, branded a criminal and a low-life, Jesus has been exalted above every other name so that at the name of Jesus, EVERY knee shall bow in heaven and earth. There will come a time when you and I will be on the main stage waiting to be judged for what we are and what we hav become. The judges will be very cruel, even sadistic in their pleasure of recounting your failures and how much you simply don't measure up. But when I open my mouth to sing there will be one song I know will silence the judges and bring the crowd to their feet in applause and amazement, Jesus loves me his I know, for the Bible tell me so, Little ones to Him belong, they are weak but He is strong. [as all heaven comes to its feet] Yes Jesus loves me, Yes Jesus loves me, Yes Jesus loves me, the Bible tells me so! I believe God loves these stories and wants to create the same story, the same underdog story, in each one of us. Once we were dead in sin and had no life at all, now in Christ we are made alive and heirs of the Kingdom. What is your favorite Underdog Story? What is your testimony of what Christ has done in your life? are they the same story?
