Through the prophet Micah God speaks from His heart of the frustration He feels for people he has loved and cared for yet who still stubbornly resist His gentles ways. They want to make God's love and favor harder to achieve. Bigger gifts will earn bigger favor. In the process we make God out to be vindictive, fickle and sadistic. This is something God cannot stand and pleads his case to the mountains, the unmovable timeless mountains that have seen God's actions through time and can judge from a different perspective.
God ask us to remember. Do you remember the time you didn't know where to turn, perhaps at a hospital, before a big test, before a job interview or before they closed the casket lid on a loved one and God was there? Do you remember the time when life seemed meaningless, a series of endless days of work, for family chores, or winters without ever being spring, and God spoke to you?
We forget too easily. We forget who we are, where our lives are heading, and who God is calling us to be. Life has a purpose and a reason, but we forget too easily.
So what are the demands God places on us? "He has shown you, O man, what is right. And what does the LORD require of you?
Act Justly – "Justice delayed is Justice denied" – Martin Luther King, Jr.
We must be clear that we are in a struggle against a culture of greed, excess and power. These are all attitudes of the heart which Jesus spoke against. We must bring to light those systems and processes that keep people in bondage. We have been set free to be examples and voices of Freedom.
