Many people describe sin as not being good enough, missing the mark or being something less than ideal. All of these definitions produce feelings of guilt, shame and resentment toward God. Sin has become sort of a cuss word to be thrown at someone and to make the thrower seem better than they really are. But my impression, based on the stories throughout the Bible, is that sin is really an addictive behavior driven by anxiety to do and live in ways that are inherently destructive. In this case, sin is not what God wants to judge us for, but something God is trying to save us from. If you've ever watched one of those TV shows, Intervention, where families gather to confront someone trapped in a physical addiction to drugs or alcohol or pornography, you get some sense as to how frustrating it is for God to reach us about our spiritual addiction to power, pride and prestige and our resentment of being told the truth. God condemnation of sin is His revelation that we are addicts to self-centered behaviors that are killing our relationships and our future. In our study this week we look at the addictive behaviors of the Hebrews and God's response. Based on Numbers 11. http://www.slideshare.net/steve4040/mpc-foundations-spiritual-addiction-90615
