Two Weeks from Today! I leave for ten days with five other people on a journey to Haiti, not just a different country, but a different world. Although I can’t take you all with me, I’d still like you to be part of the experience (if you want). Here's How... On February 16, our team will be traveling to Port-au-Prince and staying in the outskirts of the city in a neighborhood called Bon Repo where we’ll spend several days making friends, playing games, and getting adjusted to life in Haiti. While there we'll give all our energy to loving and offering hope to the 17 orphan boys that live there with God's help and  grace. We will be sharing the facilities with the 17 orphan boys who are fed, sheltered, cared for and educated through the Haiti Mission Society created and directed by Barb and Jim Richter in the US and managed in Haiti by Bato and Gina. You can find out more about HMS here. But that’s not why we’re going — not exactly.

Why are we going?

We’re going, because we’re not satisfied. Because we believe there’s something more to life, church and Jesus than can be experienced in the midst of the abundance in our culture.  We have a hunch, an inkling, that the best way to live is not for ourselves, but by bringing joy, laughter, hope and love others. In a place like Haiti, where comfort and convenience are foreign concepts and desperation and despair are knocking on the doors,  we believe God’s grace will shine brighter and reveal what we’re searching for. We know we can’t find this life on our own. We need an experience; we need to be wrecked. During out time in Haiti we will travel, I hope, to Da Bois Rouge, a mountain village about 3 hours outside Port-au-Prince and 2 hours by foot up the mountain. It will be an opportunity to step outside our comfort zone and experience life through their eyes and witness the profound sense of community and faith. It's one thing to pray for God's Kingdom and to learn about the Kingdom, it's another to live it. Each person on the trip (including me) is looking to take the next step in living a more generous, sacrificial life. I’m excited and at the same time nervous, not sure what to expect.

Who's Making the Trip?

This year we will share the journey with a spirited group. Even though you’re not going with us — this time — I thought it might be fun for you to “meet” the team.
